If you’re staying at Nonno Antonio, here’s what you absolutely can’t miss during your holiday in Puglia.
Bari is much more than its stunning old town. Of course, Bari Vecchia—with its cobbled streets, the Basilica of San Nicola, and the Swabian Castle—is a must-see starting point. But if you’re staying in a quiet, well-connected area like Via Calatafimi, you also have the chance to discover some lesser-known but equally fascinating places.
Here are 10 unmissable destinations, from urban beauty spots to the wonders of Puglia’s surroundings:
1. Torre Quetta
An urban beach with a difference: smooth pebbles, views of the harbor, and plenty of beach bars with evening events. Perfect for a seaside aperitivo, easily reachable by car or bus.
2. Parco 2 Giugno
Bari’s green lung—ideal for a walk or to relax in nature. Great for families with children too.
3. Madonnella District
An authentic neighborhood full of life, street art, and bakeries where you can try the original Barese focaccia. Less touristy, but deeply Bari.
4. Santa Scolastica Archaeological Museum
Small but well curated, located inside an ancient convent. It tells the story of Puglia from the Bronze Age to Roman times, with beautiful sea views.
5. Polignano a Mare (30 min)
One of Puglia’s most famous postcards: cliffs overlooking the sea, scenic balconies, and the statue of Domenico Modugno. Perfect for a stroll or a seaside lunch.
6. Alberobello (1 hour)
The famous trulli houses, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A fairytale atmosphere with artisan shops. A true symbol of Puglia.
7. Castel del Monte (1 hour)
The mysterious octagonal castle of Emperor Frederick II. Surrounded by nature, it’s ideal for a day of history and photography.
8. Matera (1 hr 15 min)
Not in Puglia, but so close it deserves a visit. The Sassi di Matera are a unique historical site in the world. Perfect for a day trip.
9. Monopoli (40 min)
A charming historic center with whitewashed buildings, postcard-perfect harbor, and beautiful beaches. Less crowded than Polignano, but equally stunning.
10. Trani (40 min)
An elegant town with its famous Romanesque cathedral right by the sea. Perfect for a romantic dinner or cultural walk.
